With the weather now changing it effects our driving conditions so it is important that we check the condition of our tyres to make sure our vehicle is safe to drive. With the car’s tyres being the only part of the car that has contact with the road surface, they play an important part in the handling and safety of the vehicle.
The minimum legal depth limit is 1.6mm, we recommend that you replace your tyres before they reach the 1.66mm limit.
You can check your tyres depth by using a 20 pence piece. Insert the 20p coin into the lowest tread depth of your tyres, if you can’t see the outer rim of the 20p then your tyre depth is safe and has a minimum of 3mm depth.
Don’t drive around under pressure.
Driving with the correct tyre pressure helps you use less fuel and your tyres will last longer, by driving around with under inflated tyres you risk further damage to be caused to your tyres and rapid deflation.
As well as tyre pressure and depth it is also important to check for any lumps, cut’s and bulges in the tyres, you should try and check your tyres once a month and before any long journeys. If you are unsure about the safety of your tyres book in for a health check and we will happily take a look at them for you!
